Just INKKS
My life as an Artist started back in the late 1960’s when my family moved to Sydney Australia to live. My life was in full colour, birds, trees, sea and skies. I was six years old when I first picked up a pencil and drew a line with my left hand. I remember the power of a line and how its pure straight force sat perfect on the paper.
My life changed to Black and White when my family returned to England, the streets, trains, buses cars, and people were all in black ands white, even the films on television were all monochrome. My teacher at school told me I couldn’t draw, “your left handed, you don’t hold a pen straight, your never going to be any good ‘‘
I became a Portrait photographer in my late twenties after finishing my degree working in film, I was taught by American photographer George Tyce in New Jersey, USA. I now run a photographic studio, I teach photography, and my work has been collected by The National Portrait Gallery in London. I have a published book “Made in the North” with a collection of my portraits over 30 years.
My life was never fulfilled, as there was always something missing and then I started to draw again, I picked up a pen and drew a line the art of drawing came back me, I began with an ink pen to make shapes and marks on the paper. Life has turned full circle, I am now drawing making the perfect line, true, straight and balanced. I am now truly fulfilled, I’m happy.
